Why the Mighty Fine

A big, comfortable boat — and a family that's done this for generations

Many Gulf charter boats are licensed for just six guests. The Mighty Fine is Coast Guard approved for twenty — so the whole family reunion, bachelor party, or church group fishes together on one deck instead of split across three boats.

Between spots you're not huddled on a bench in the sun: there's an air-conditioned cabin, a real bathroom, bunks if the kids need a nap, and plenty of seating on deck. And when you're back at the dock, your catch is hung up for photos, then cleaned, bagged, and handed over ready for the pan.

  • 50-ft classic sportfisherman — built 1986, fully restored 2021, twin Cummins diesels
  • Air-conditioned cabin, bathroom, bunks, and shaded deck seating
  • Two deckhands on big-group trips — kids and first-timers welcome
  • Fishing licenses, rods, tackle, bait, ice, and catch cleaning included
  • Federally permitted — licensed for the deep water past 9 miles, where the big ones live

Red snapper season is on

Red snapper season opened June 1, and in Capt. Gavin's words the fish have been "getting hit pretty hard every single day" since. Late-season fish get smarter, which is exactly why he recommends the longer trips right now — more range means fresher spots and heavier boxes.

  • Open now: red snapper, mangrove snapper, vermilion snapper, red grouper, king mackerel
  • Aug 1: gray triggerfish reopens — a Gulf favorite on the dinner table
  • Closed right now: amberjack, gag grouper — they'll keep for another trip
